Reflections after watching "Through the Iron Curtain from Romania"

The world premiere documentary screening was followed with  a panel discussion and awards ceremony hosted by Don Shelby, former WCCO TV anchor.   Many reflected on how the personal risks these immigrants took to start a new life in Minnesota were inspiring.  They paved the way for others to follow and fostered the creation of a new community that sustains the traditions and values of their deep cultural roots.

We are so grateful for the State of Minnesota for a story that will be kept for generations.

Original Interviews

“Through the Iron Curtain – From Romania” documentary was born from fifteen oral history recordings completed by HORA in working with Town Square Television in 2015.

We are deeply grateful to all the participants who, at times, through tears recollected their emotional immigration memories, escaping Communist Romania. It is an honor to document their first-hand stories of survival and escape from inside Communist Romania and their renaissance in Minnesota.

Special thanks to Town Square Television for an extraordinary long-term partnership and generous contributions!
